Announcement: Accessible Canada Directorate

From: Employment and Social Development Canada

It is my pleasure to announce that, effective March 29, 2021, the Accessibility Secretariat at Employment and Social Development Canada will be changing its name to the Accessible Canada Directorate.

As you may know, the Accessibility Secretariat was originally created as a task team focused on the development of the Accessible Canada Act. With the promulgation of the Act in 2019, came new responsibilities as the Government of Canada’s focal point for advancing accessibility within the federally regulated sector and nationally through the implementation of the Accessible Canada Act. The organization has evolved into a full-fledged directorate responsible for a wide range of policy and program functions relating to both legislative implementations and to advancing broader accessibility initiatives towards the realization of a barrier-free Canada. These include, inter alia, strategic policy, regulatory development, stakeholder and cross-jurisdictional engagement, data and measurement, and program development and management related to accessibility.

In addition, I wanted to let you know that we are migrating to the use of a new generic email address: ACCESSIBLE.CANADA.DIRECTORATE-DIRECTION.CANADA.ACCESSIBLE@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca, which we have used to send you this email. To eliminate the possibility of confusion, and in line with the Canada Gazette notice, please continue to send comments concerning the current Accessible Canada Regulations process to the legacy email address.
